The Myco-Mate®
Fast Fungi is a brand new innovative mushroom growing kit from
The Netherlands.
The Myco-Mate®
Fast Fungi comes complete with full colour illustrated
instructions and everything you need to grow edible mushrooms.
There are two options for inoculating (injecting) the mushroom
kit.
Spores: You may
inject spores directly into growth substrate; this is a little
less work but takes longer and occasionally not enough of the
spores germinate, or Liquid Culture: For much quicker
colonisation and larger yields you must first inoculate and
colonise a Myco-Mate® Liquid Culture vial and then inject the
liquid culture into the bag of growth substrate. The Myco-Mate®
Fast Fungi will yield several hundred grams of mushrooms in a
few weeks, so it is faster and greater yielding than other
mushroom grow kits. Each kit comes with complete instructions
and is not be used to grow mushrooms of the magic kind in
countries where it is illegal to do so.
Myco-box Oyster mushroom
grow kit - £17.50
Myco-box Oyster mushroom
grow kit - £17.50
The Myco-Box is a
very small but very quick way of growing mushrooms.
The kit includes a small tub (250ml) of sterilised substrate, a
tray of vermiculite, 1 alcohol wipe, and a humidity tent.
Syringe NOT included. (Available below, not all are Legal for
cultivation in the UK)
Method; Use the alcotip wipe to clean the lid and needle of the
syringe. Inject 4 x 0.5ml through the lid of the tub. Seal the
holes with tape immediately after. Leave in a warm place (28 C
is ideal) for around 3 weeks, or until the whole thing has
turned white.
Fill the vermiculite tray with boiling water and allow to cool
for a few hours, when cooled, drain off any excess water. Remove
the lid's from both tubs and sit the white block open end down
onto the vermiculite.
Now move the tray into the humidity tent, fold over the top and
seal with paper clips. Your first mushrooms (approx 35 grams)
should appear in a few weeks. Pick off any mushrooms just before
they open their caps, add a little extra water to the
vermiculite, and put it back in the bag to fruit.
Yields of up to 100grams are possible but 70-80 is more likely.

|
Remove tinfoil from myco-box. You are going to
start the kit by injecting spores at 4 equally spaced sites
around the top of the box (near to the edge as shown in the
diagram to the left)
|
Swab each site with the supplied alcohol wipe
before injecting each of the four sites with approx 0.5ml of
spore solution. Quickly tape over the holes afterwards (with
selotape or similar). That's it! Relax.
|
|
|
Incubate the box somewhere warm and dark (26-28 °C
is ideal for most tropical species). You will see small
white spots of mushroom mycelium start to grow after a few
days.
|
|
Wait 2-3 weeks until the contents turn completely
white (except for a small top layer, which will not turn
white as it is dry). Then place it in the fridge for two
days.
|
|
|
Now you are ready to fruit.
Add some boiling water to the vermiculite in the tray, put
the lid on and leave to cool for a couple of hours. When
it's fully cooled, drain off the excess water from the
vermiculite by opening the lid slightly. Remove the lids
from the tray and Myco-Box and "birth" the cake by loosening
the lid, inverting the Myco-Box and letting it drop on to
the vermiculite in the tray.
|
|
|
Now place the whole tray and its contents carefully inside
the plastic bag and close the top with paperclips or tape.
Place somewhere warm (22-24 °C) which receives some light
(but not direct sun). You should see mushrooms appear within
1-3 weeks. Pick your mushrooms when they begin to open their
caps. Add a bit more water to the vermiculite, close the bag
again and you should get a couple more crops. With little or
no modification, this method could probably be applied to
many species of saphrophytic fungi, yielding similar
results. Enjoy
